Who We Are
Recess is a leading beverage company built around the idea of helping people feel calm, balanced, and inspired. Our mission is to bring functional, better-for-you beverages to the mainstream through products that are as enjoyable as they are effective. With a portfolio that includes sparkling waters infused with magnesium and adaptogens, mocktails crafted for social occasions, and other wellness-driven beverages, Recess is redefining what it means to drink something good for both body and mind.
Founded with creativity and culture at its core, Recess has quickly grown into one of the most recognizable functional beverage brands in the U.S. Our drinks are designed for modern consumers who want healthier options without compromising on taste, quality, or experience.
At Recess, we’re not just building beverages — we’re creating a lifestyle brand that connects with people through innovation, design, and authenticity.
The Role
The VP Digital Commerce & Media owns Recess’ digital revenue engine, with Amazon, e-retail, and omni-channel commerce as the primary growth drivers of the business.
This role is responsible for building and scaling a best-in-class Amazon-first and retail-integrated commerce strategy, while owning all paid media across digital and retail environments — including performance marketing, retail media, and streaming/CTV.
DTC is a supporting channel, not the core focus. This role will initially oversee DTC performance but is expected to build and delegate this function over time, ensuring the primary focus remains on scaling Amazon, e-retail, and omni-channel growth.
This person operates as a true business owner, with full accountability for revenue growth, profitability, and long-term brand equity, connecting commerce and media into a unified system that drives both immediate conversion and sustained brand growth.
What You’ll Do
Digital Commerce & P&L Leadership- Own Amazon and e-retail revenue, profitability, and forecasting as the core business driver
Build and scale a high-performing omni-channel commerce engine across marketplaces and retail partners
Identify and unlock new revenue opportunities across platforms, retailers, and emerging channels
Establish clear financial discipline across CAC, contribution margin, LTV, and blended MER
Amazon & Marketplace Strategy (Core Focus)- Own end-to-end Amazon strategy including Seller vs Vendor model decisions, hybrid structures, and long-term channel optimization
Lead pricing architecture, trade strategy, promotional cadence, and margin management
Oversee PDP optimization, SEO, content strategy, and conversion rate improvement
Manage and evolve Amazon PPC with a focus on incremental, profitable growth
Build deep relationships with Amazon (where applicable) and key partners
Expand into additional marketplaces as the business evolves
E-Retail & Omni-Channel Commerce- Drive performance across key e-retail partners (Target, Walmart, Kroger, etc.)
Ensure strong digital shelf presence, content consistency, and conversion optimization across retailers
Partner closely with Sales and Trade Marketing to align digital commerce with in-store strategy
Build a cohesive omni-channel strategy that connects online discovery to offline conversion
DTC & Owned Channels (Secondary Priority)- Oversee DTC performance across conversion, AOV, retention, and lifecycle marketing
Ensure DTC operates as a profitable and strategically sound channel, not a resource drain
Build and eventually hire/lead a dedicated DTC owner to run this channel day-to-day
Maintain focus on DTC as a testing and brand-building environment, not the core revenue driver
Paid Media & Performance Marketing- Own all paid media across digital channels including paid social, search, affiliate, and programmatic
Lead streaming TV (CTV), digital video, and emerging media channels
Build structured testing frameworks focused on long-term ROI, not short-term hacks
Partner with Brand to improve creative effectiveness across performance channels
Retail Media- Own retail media strategy across Amazon, Target, Kroger, Walmart, and key partners
Align retail media investment with Trade Marketing and Sales priorities
Optimize spend to drive both online conversion and in-store velocity
Build retail media into a scalable, measurable growth engine
Team & Agency Leadership- Build and lead a high-performing digital commerce and media team
Determine the right balance of in-house vs. agency capabilities
Manage best-in-class agency partners where they add strategic leverage
Create a culture of accountability, experimentation, and performance rigor
Establish clear processes, reporting, and operating cadence
What Success Looks Like (12 Months)- Amazon and e-retail are scaled, profitable, and predictable growth engines
Clear leadership in digital shelf, conversion, and category positioning on Amazon
Paid media and retail media are fully integrated into a holistic commerce system
Strong omni-channel flywheel between digital discovery and retail velocity
DTC is stabilized, profitable, and operated by a dedicated owner
Best-in-class digital commerce organization built with the right mix of talent and partners
Clear visibility into channel-level performance, attribution, and long-term ROI
What You’ll Bring- 8–12+ years in digital commerce, e-retail, or performance marketing leadership
Deep, hands-on experience operating Amazon businesses at scale (Seller, Vendor, or hybrid)
Strong understanding of Amazon pricing, trade, margin structure, and negotiation dynamics
Proven track record of owning and operating a P&L
Experience across retail media, performance marketing, and streaming/CTV
Strong understanding of omni-channel commerce and digital shelf strategy
Highly analytical with strong financial and data fluency
Entrepreneurial, scrappy, and comfortable building from 0→1 and scaling
Strong leader with experience building teams and leveraging agencies effectively
Creative thinker who can partner cross-functionally to drive performance
